SHIRAZ 2021
In 2004 Robertson Winery released a very special Shiraz to commemorate ten years of democracy in South Africa under the new constitution. The wine has a radiant deep purple colour. Rich aromas of plum, and black berries envelopes warm spice aromas and a hint of dark chocolate.
A voluptuous wine with silky tannins. Ripe dark fruit found on the nose follows through to the palate and lingers on the finish. This opulent wine is vibrant and deeply satisfying. Pair it with a joyous gathering of family and friends as you celebrate abundance.

The Vineyard:
The grapes are sourced from Robertson Winery’s top shiraz vineyards – two premium blocks on the Wolfkloof farm.
The Cellar:
A 10% saignée and two days of cold maceration took place in small open top fermenters. Once fermentation began, the skin cap was punched down or pumped over every six hours to ensure optimal extraction of flavour, tannin and colour. After fermentation the wine was left on the skins for 5-7 days extended maceration. Malolactic fermentation took place in 100% new 225- and 300-litre French oak barrels. The wine was aged for 36 months in barrel.
The Wine:
It has a radiant deep purple colour. Rich aromas of ripe plum and blackberries envelop warm spice notes and a hint of dark chocolate. The ripe, dark fruit found on the nose follows through onto the voluptuous, velvety palate and lingers on the finish. This opulent wine is bold, well-structured and exquisitely poised.
Cellaring Potential:
7 to 10 years
The Accolades:
Michelangelo International Wine Awards – Gold
Syrah Du Monde 2018 – Silver
The Food:
Slow-roasted barbecue pork shoulder with plum sauce; Grilled pepper steak with onion and blue cheese; Herb-crusted rack of lamb; A hearty venison casserole.
The Price:
The Robertson Winery Constitution Road Shiraz 2012 retails nationally at leading wine retailers for approximately R220.
Aroma, Acidity & Finish:
The grapes were hand harvested in 20 kg crates from two premium blocks on the Wolfkloof farm. The grapes were picked between 25-26 Brix. At the Cellar grapes were de-stemmed and taken to small open top fermenters. A 10% saignee was done followed by two days of cold maceration. Once fermentation kicked off the skin cap was punch down or pumped over every 6 hours to ensure optimal extraction of flavour, tannin and colour. After fermentation the wine was left on the skins for 5-7 days extended maceration. The skins were then pressed off and the wine taken to new 225 L and 300 L oak barrels to undergo malolactic fermention. Wine was aged for 16 months in barrel in our temperature controlled cellar.

Thys Loubser, Red Wine-Wine Maker, Robertson Winery
Since graduating from Elsenburg College, Thys Loubser has been in the wine industry since 1991, later joining Robertson Winery in 2012.
He is responsible for the entire red wine process from receiving and fermentation to oak maturation. It is harvest time when he is able to experiment with different fermentation temperatures and yeast strains to make a tank of wine in only 5-7 days that is most exciting for Thys. Amongst his other annual highlights is the blending process that occurs between the 7-10-month period, as well as the regular six monthly tastings on barrel maturation that steer the direction for the following year.
Winning awards is satisfying says Thys, but the real prize is in the knowledge that customers are truly enjoying the product. This is achieved through ensuring consistent, quality wine where fruit and wood are in balance with the cultivar expression.
In his 29 years in the industry Thys has learnt that remaining humble, sticking to the basics and having good relationships with customers and colleagues are all key to success. He believes that this is made possible in the Robertson Winery environment where trust, staff and teamwork are highly valued, making it possible for people to live their dreams.
